Now that planning has finally been granted, Anna Forbes and her team from ARK (Action for the River Kennet) will shortly be starting work on the Water Meadow to transform it from the ugly nettle patch to an attractive little nature reserve.
The Community Payback team will begin to strim back the nettles and on 30th September diggers will be on site to start the levelling of the bank near the road and create the dipping pond and space for the boardwalk  Please bear with us for this necessary part of the process, it won’t look pretty just yet!
A boardwalk made of very durable recycled plastic will also be installed and a hedge planted along the outer perimeter nearest the road as well as lots of marginal and native plants around the new pond to attract insects and wildlife.
There will be a community planting day on October 20th for which we are seeking volunteers.  We hope as many of you as possible would like to be involved in creating this little legacy for our village and future generations, so please see attached poster or contact Anna Forbes from ARK – anna@riverkennet.org  07780381709 to sign up and be part of it.
