Speed Indicator Device – Initial data from Aug 1st – Sept 16th.
We have now downloaded the initial data from our new Speed Indicator Device (SID) in the village.
The volume of cars going through our village on the A4 is substantial, with over 106,000 coming into the village from Hungerford and over 129,000 exiting the village from Marlborough.
The initial data shows that 90% of vehicles passing the new SID coming into the village from Hungerford are travelling between 30-40mph. 9.5% of vehicles were tracked at travelling at speeds of between 40-50mph. Worryingly, a small number of vehicles were travelling in excess of 50mph and even 60mph.
Data for outgoing vehicles from Marlborough shows 75% were travelling at speeds of 30-40 mph and 23% at speeds of 40-50mph. This indicates that the SID is effective in slowing down vehicles coming into the village from the Hungerford side of the A4.
We can reverse the SID and monitor traffic leaving the village from the Marlborough direction of the A4 to see if average speeds reduce by drivers being made aware of their speed.
