High-Speed Broadband Engineering Works

It has been brought to our attention that a new telegraph pole has been erected in Manor Park as part of the on-going engineering work in preparation for the roll-out of super-fast broadband. This work is being carried out by BT Open Reach.

At our PC meeting in March this year we invited a representative of the BT, the regional manager for the roll-out programme, kindly attended to talk about the pending installation. I know at that time he did state that ‘where possible’ the lines would be underground. We will be contacting him again to discuss this.

Unfortunately, the Parish Council were not aware that these poles were to be installed or where they would be sited. There has been no consultation. Having spoken to Wiltshire County Council, who are responsible for all planning applications, Open Reach, as a Statutory Body are not obliged to seek planning permission for their installations.

I understand that attached to the poles there are the details to contact should anyone wish to make a complaint and I suggest any residents in Manor Park who are unhappy follow this action and perhaps present a united argument to ask for the poles to be re-sited.

The Parish Council has the best interest of the village at heart at all times
If anyone wishes to discuss this further please contact any of your councillors whose details are listed on this website and we will seek to help in any way please let me know.

Our next Parish Council Meeting is on Wednesday 12th July. Councillors will be available before the meeting from 7.00pm to discuss any items of concern and the meeting will start at 7.30pm.

Background to High-Speed Broadband roll-out

AT the Parish Council Meeting on Wednesday, March 8th, Guest Speaker Mr Richard Leeding of BT briefed locals about the upgrade of the village to high-speed broadband. This work has now begun. Every household in the main village area of Froxfield will have the facility of fibre optic cable to their premises.

However, to access the new speeds, individual householders will need to sign up to a new contract with their own broadband provider.

Information about progress by individual postcodes can be found on either the BT Openreach website or http://www.wiltshireonline.org.

Froxfield Parish Council has been awarded a Community Benefit Grant from Lightsource Renewables, the company that owns and manages the Rudge Manor Solar Farm and this one-off payment of £15,000 has now been paid and we will begin discussions on the process of setting up a local committee to manage grants to local projects at the next Parish Council Meeting on July 12th.[b]
